About
QatarDebate, a member of Qatar Foundation, is a civic engagement initiative which aims to develop and support the standard of open discussion and debate among students and young people in Qatar and the broader Arab World. Our mission is to foster a culture of discussion and debate, and in doing so, create the leaders of tomorrow.
Since our founding in 2007, over 2500 students have participated in QatarDebate’s annual program of workshops, and we now have a presence in over 30 schools and universities in Qatar. QatarDebate runs intensive workshops for students, an annual debate league and national competitions, selects the Qatar National Schools’ Debating Team, and produces media resources for use in schools and universities across the Arab World.
QatarDebate currently works with students in secondary schools (12+) and universities in Qatar, and in 2009 will also begin incorporating preparatory school students into our programs. Going forward, in February 2010 Qatar will host the World Schools’ Debating Championships in the Arab World for the first time, we are in the process of launching an Arabic language debate programme, and we look forward to working with our partner organizations to deliver innovative and interactive curriculum materials to educational institutions around the world.
