Qatar University’s First Annual Public Debate

QU Debaters

In efforts to build their Debate Club, QU held it’s first annual public debate on Tuesday, May 19th with support from QatarDebate.  Over 100 students and professors attended.  Three students debated against three of their professors on the motion This house believes that QU should make Arabic the primary language of instruction.  Mirroring the Doha Debates, after the debate was over the audience asked questions and made comments.  Many excellent arguments presented included the idea that language effects your perspective on life verses the necessity of English in today’s global economy.  The motion passed with an audience vote of 64% in favor.  More importantly, students signed up to join the debate club and the girls will be starting one of their own as well!
